Actually, you could just install the XP upgrade twice; I think that the second install assumes that you are upgrading. Do it! You will not be sorry.

I installed a Vista upgrade 2 weeks ago. Had XP. What a mess! I've had to reload twice, and it still sucks!!! I mean badly. Now I realize that my Upgrade will expire because I can't activate it... since it is an Upgrade package and not a clean install package.

I feel like I'm in Vegas. I can't tell what the hell is going to happen when I boot up or hit a key! Most of the time, I get that spinning circle (of death); wait for 10 minutes, the reboot in hopes it figures out what the hell is going on. Usually, it just gets lost even further.

HEre's the rub... I'm not an educated or advance user. I use internet and office and grab some spyware to protect myself. That is it, and it doesn't matter.

I'm thinking about re-loading Windows 2000 then my XP Upgrade and waiting for Vista to die or get fixed. Am I screwed up?

I agree, Vista SUCKS!! It is very pretty but if you need to run anything other than Internet Explorer and other very basic software it SUCKS!

It is the most inconsistent operating system I have ever dealt with. I have tried to design an install for a software program for Vista for months now with no luck still. Sure the software will work after you install it and then manually register the activex files, but thats not how an installation is supposed to work. With Vista you run into different problems with different configurations and with different versions of Vista so there is never just one fix. The UAC is a joke, I’m sure thats the first thing most people disable, but even then the fundamental changes they made for UAC purposes is what causes most of Vista’s problems.

Why should the UAC prompt you if it is alright to run something when you click on it with the mouse, it is the operating system, it should know the difference between YOU clicking on something and something that being started by another process.

Vista sucked before it was ever released. And the entire time MS was making their newest and crappiest OS the free software movement was _continuing_ to leave them in the dust.

Besides the MS DOC format and playing games there is little reason to "use" windows.

You couldn't pay me to use Vista let alone get me to pay to use it. That's why I returned my copy to microsoft and switched to Mac.

IF, you do not know how to protect your computer properly, and IF you need the features that Vista provides (which are few productive ones), and IF your computer has the resources to run it effectively, and IF you have the patience to learn where everything has been moved around to, and IF you can tolerate the incessant UAC nags, then I agree with you.
To me, it is more like Windows ME 2 - useless and forgettable.
