Scoble has a post about “Netflix is dead” and that is simply ridiculous in the time space we currently live in.
P2P with Verisign and Adobe? Please. *Maybe* Apple could pull this off, maybe even Microsoft, but no way could these two do it. Can’t even imagine that these two even have the corporate culture to even compete with Netflix.
Downloading movies in the US is just not possible right now – the bandwidth is not adequate, the interconnectivity between PCs and TVs is simply not there (and there is nothing on the horizon to push it there, except, maybe, the Apple box), and it is too damn easy to walk out to the mailbox. And besides that, there is no way Verisign and Adobe will reproduce the user experience that Netflix has perfected. And besides, you don’t think the dudes at Netflix don’t see this coming? They have been thinking about this from day one – after all, we all know that multimedia over the Internet is just a matter of time. C’mon, give them some credit.
Robert, I hope you weren’t just posting a controversial post just to get traffic, but I think you are way off in this case. Mellow out and hang out with some of us from the midwest when you get a chance. At least you got a stir out of me. Keep up the good work with the photography posts.
