Vista Problems
I upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Business yesterday (2-19-2007), and so far, I have found the following program incompatibilities, and if possible, the fixes (if any).
- BlogDesk does not run properly: After installing, get ” Run-time error ’339′: Component ‘dhtmled.ocx’ or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid” Here is the fix: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=B769A4B8-48ED-41A1-8095-5A086D1937CB&displayLang=en Download and install.
- Launching Trillian turns off Vista Aero: Launch Apple Quicktime. Go to Edit -> Quicktime Preferences. Select the Advanced tab, and under Video select “Safe Mode (GDI Only). Close Trillian and restart.
- Evoluent mouse center and right buttons reverse function: No fix yet.
- Lose Xerox Phaser 8500 Printer: Download drivers from Xerox site for Vista.
- Lose Brother 7820N Printer: Download software for Vista.
- Dell Axim will not Sync: Download and install Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center software for Windows Vista.
- Motorola Phone Tools does not work: No fix as of yet. Updated FIXED!: Read this post.
- OpenOffice does not work properly: drop down list trouble.
- “Error Initializing Opera” launch error with Vista: I upgraded (or reinstalled, I don’t know which) to Opera 9.1.
Oh, and by the way, Vista Sucks. After several months use, I can find no compelling reason for most people to upgrade. On my desktop, I think it would be too much trouble to roll back, so I’m stuck with it. But, I did buy a new notebook recently, and the first thing I did was format and install Windows XP. I am very happy I did not install MEII.
