I purchased the domain oceans14.com a few years ago after seeing the movie Oceans 11. Â What a great & unique remake of a classic rat pack movie. Â I thought sequels would surely be made, and discovered that 12 and 13 were already registered, hence I got oceans14.
Cybersquatter? Â Not really; after all, I registered it loonnggg before anyone knew if there would even be
3 2 sequels. Â For that matter, Warner Brothers & Steven Soderbergh may choose to skip 14, go to oceans10, or simply call the next one Ocean & Company. Clooney, Pitt & Company could be sick of making them. Who knows?
But I’m not looking for a check (I don’t even know if it is really worth anything – I’ll have to read up on cybersquatting laws), but maybe just something unique – just something to say “I was a part of this film”, or maybe just something useful to do with the site.
What would you do if you had this domain? Â Should I create a fan site instead? Anyone else registered movie name domains and then made a deal with studios? Â More importantly, Mr. Soderbergh, are you making another one?
If there is enough interest in this topic, I will setup another site at oceans14.com.  Anyway, Oceans 13 will be released June 8, 2007. Visit the official movie site here.
UPDATE 8-26-2012: Â Wow, it has been awhile since I posted this. Earlier this year, I read Jerry Weintraub’s book, When I Stop Talking, You’ll Know I’m Dead. I learned a little more about how the entertainment industry works from this book, and Jerry is responsible for all 3 Ocean’s movies, among other things.
From the publisher:  “In WHEN I STOP TALKING, YOU’LL KNOW I’M DEAD, we follow Weintraub from his first great success at age twenty-six with Elvis Presley, whom he took on the road with the help of Colonel Tom Parker; to the immortal days with Sinatra and Rat Pack glory; to his crowning hits as a movie producer, starting with Robert Altman and Nashville, continuing with Oh, God!,The Karate Kid movies, and Diner, among others, and summiting with Steven Soderbergh and Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen.
Along the way, we’ll watch as Jerry moves from the poker tables of Palm Springs (the games went on for days), to the power rooms of Hollywood, to the halls of the White House, to Red Square in Moscow and the Great Palace in Beijing-all the while counseling potentates, poets, and kings, with clients and confidants like George Clooney, Bruce Willis, George H. W. Bush, Armand Hammer, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, John Denver, Bobby Fischer . . .well, the list goes on forever.”
What a fun book! You can read my review of it here.
Seriously guys, if you need it, its yours. Just make one more.
